The Phineas Gage of Broadcast Media!

On September 13, 1848, reliable and respected railroad foreman Phineas Gage suffered a terrible accident. While supervising a blasting operation, Phineas was tamping blasting powder into a bore hole with an iron rod. The explosives prematurely detonated, launching the 43 inch long, 2.5 inch diameter tamping rod through Mr. Gage’s skull and brain, destroying part of his pre-frontal lobe.

The iron rod blasted through Mr. Gage’s skull completely, landing eighty feet away. Surprisingly, Phineas was not killed. He did not even fall down. Never losing consciousness, Phineas was treated by a doctor and sent home to rest.

Apart from loosing his left eye, Phineas recovered physically. However he was never the same again. Phineas became argumentative, disagreeable and generally anti-social acting kind of crazy for the remainder of his life.
